Staying with networking and semiconductor
on

Alex, [ETF,Exchange-traded funds]
No major changes in the markets over the past two weeks. In fact, we continue to recommend networking and semiconductor sectors in the same proportions as we did last week. Other sectors that are doing well include pharma, biotech, and insurance. In our Conservative allocation, we’re getting back into utilities, which remain relatively safe.

Networking and semiconductor stocks continue to do well

2010/03/14 by
Alex, [ETF,Exchange-traded funds]
Since networking and semiconductor stocks, which we recommended last week, continue to do well, we are recommending them again. Semiconductors are still in danger of being overbought, as are other sectors that are performing well, such as pharmaceuticals and biotech.

Staying with biotech
on
2010/02/21 by
Alex, [ETF,Exchange-traded funds]
Things have not changed much since last week, when we recommended putting some money into biotech. Both biotech and gold still look good, with biotech looking better than gold. All of the markets are that we follow remain so risky that we are keeping most of our money in the money market.

Alex, [ETF,Exchange-traded funds]

We are holding on to biotech, as we still think it has good longer-term potential. Though many stocks dropped at the end of last week, biotech dropped less than large-cap stocks, indicating strength.

Despite its sharp drop on Friday, biotech, which we recommended last week, continues to be in a strong uptrend. Another good investment right now is gold. Utilities, while still promising, are relatively weaker, so we are no longer recommending them.

This week, we’re recommending biotech, which has been doing well in the recent past, outperforming the general stock market. Utilities are a good way to diversify the biotech position.

Going into cash
on
2009/06/29 by
Alex, [ETF,Exchange-traded funds]
Both of the funds that we recommended last week have had excellent gains. IBB, a biotech fund, has earned 4.43% in a week. FXI, a fund that tracks the Chinese stock market, has earned 6.35%. By comparison, the S&P 500 index is up 2.90%. This week, we are going completely into cash. The coming week [...]

We pick the mix of investments that maximizes the expected return while not exceeding a fixed maximum risk. This week, we are recommending a fund that follows biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and another fund that follows large Chinese companies.
