Over the past month, our Conservative allocation has made 6.21%, while our Balanced allocation has made 4.04%. Though over the past week, both allocations have stayed flat. The Conservative allocation was in cash, while the Balanced allocation was in FXE (CurrencyShares Euro Trust), which is flat for the week. This week, we are recommending a [...]

  • Foreign currencies continuing to do well on by Alex, [ETF,Exchange-traded funds] Hatena Bookmark

Foreign currencies are continuing to do well. For example, FXA (CurrencyShares Australian Dollar Trust), which we recommended last week, has made 2.4% in a week. We are thus continuing to recommend currencies in our Balanced allocation.

We are continuing to hold the Lifecycle 2010 fund in our Balanced allocation. In the Conservative allocation, we’ve shifted even more toward the G (“Money Market”) fund.

  • Shifting out of stocks on by Alex, [TSP,Thrift Savings Plan] Hatena Bookmark

Stocks are getting shaky again, and so we are shifting out of them again. We are thus recommending the Lifecycle 2010 fund, as well as the non-stock G and F funds in our Conservative allocation.

  • Australian Dollars and British Pound Sterlings on by Alex, [ETF,Exchange-traded funds] Hatena Bookmark

We pick the mix of investments that maximizes the expected return while not exceeding a fixed maximum risk. The recommendation we made a week ago of going into cash was prudent, as stocks fell during this past week. For example, the S&P 500 index fell by 3.32%. This week, we are recommending two foreign currency [...]
